Our History
On September 3rd, 2021, we will mark the 50th anniversary of our beloved State’s independence. The past 50 years, we have seen tremendous growth and devastation in the country. Our troops were sent far and near to protect our sovereignty and the sovereignty of others. Qatar has gone through crippling debt to then becoming the wealthiest nation per capita. In 1971, we were a country without a university, without a museum, and without a stock exchange. Today, we are a country that has built and hosted countless universities; opened, closed, and reopened museums; and built not only a stock-market but a sovereign wealth fund that manages assets worth hundreds of billions.
In a short period, we’ve experienced so much sometimes more than we even remember, which is why we believe in the need to ensure collective remembrance. For our sake, we need to process what we have gone through. For the sake of our children, we need to remember to preserve their history for them.
We invite you to be part of the retelling of our nation’s story. To share your story, please email us at A@Qatar50.org
